NORAIDAH Lamat, 46, agreed during the inquest into her daughter’s death on Monday that the bruising previously believed to have resulted from beatings was explained by doctors as blood clots.

“Based on what I have read, that is correct,” she said when questioned by lawyer Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah at the Kota Kinabalu Coroner’s Court today on whether any doctor who examined Zara Qairina had observed or recorded injuries consistent with a beating.

Noraidah explained that the family’s earlier suggestion that the bruises were caused by a blunt object was made before they received information from the investigating police officer and before the post-mortem examination was conducted.

“That was because we had not received information from the investigating police officer and the post-mortem had not yet been carried out,” she said.

Asked whether she was prepared to accept the possibility that the inquest might find her daughter had not been murdered but had taken her own life, Noraidah did not directly answer the question.

Instead, she said she hoped justice would be served.

“I hope justice will be served and all witnesses will tell the truth,” she said.

During the same proceedings, Noraidah acknowledged that she had not personally witnessed the alleged incident involving senior students and Zara Qairina on July 15, 2025, as she had been at home at the time.

She said her understanding of what had happened came from witness statements, discussions in WhatsApp groups and reports prepared by her family’s lawyers.

“That is correct, because I was at home and I did not receive an explanation from the school or the investigating police officer,” she said when asked whether she had no direct knowledge of what had occurred between Zara Qairina and the senior students that day. - October 12, 2026
