POLICE arrests one of five suspects wanted over an attack in which a 23-year-old man was severely injured after being beaten and kicked, including with a helmet, in Inanam, Kota Kinabalu.

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested in Kampung Melalin, Tuaran, at about 12.45am today.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrudin Mat Husain said the arrest followed further investigations after police received a report from the victim’s mother at 5.48pm yesterday.

The arrest was carried out by officers and personnel from the Sabah police contingent headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department and the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division.

“Efforts to track down the other individuals believed to have been involved in the incident are ongoing,” he said in a statement today.

Shahrudin said legal action would be taken against anyone found to have been involved in the attack.

The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 148 of the Penal Code, relating to voluntarily causing hurt using weapons or dangerous means and rioting while armed with a deadly weapon, respectively.

Police had earlier launched a search for five men suspected of assaulting the 23-year-old victim, including beating and kicking him and using a helmet, on Saturday night. - October 12, 2026
