KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened mixed for the second consecutive day amid Wall Street’s weaker performance overnight as traders remained on the sidelines ahead of some economic data due for release later today.

At 9.10 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI added 2.07 points to 1,391.95 from 1,389.88 at yesterday’s close.

The key index opened 0.99 of-a-point better at 1,390.87.

However, the broader market was negative with decliners surpassing advancers 136 to 124, while 215 counters were unchanged, 1,860 untraded and 40 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 254.18 million units worth RM63.79 million.

The ringgit continued its positive movement to open marginally higher against the US dollar today on the back of a slight retracement of the greenback against major currencies.

However, the US dollar continues to appeal as a safe-haven currency and would see upside pressure following the uncertainties in Russia over the weekend and concerns over global growth and the expectation of more monetary tightening policy from the US Federal Reserve, dealers said.

At 9am, the local unit rose to 4.6720/6780 versus the greenback compared to 4.6730/6780 at yesterday’s close. – Bernama, June 27, 2023
