Sabah inks MoU with Huawei to boost e-commerce, city planning

SHENZHEN – Huawei Technologies Malaysia Sdn Bhd will help Sabah speed up its digital initiatives following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Sabah government and the China-headquartered firm today. 

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, when witnessing the MoU signing, said he expects the partnership to boost Sabah’s digital transformation. 

He said this will empower Sabah and the people to reap the benefits of technological innovation, fostering economic growth and improve the state’s public services. 

“I am happy to note that under the MoU, Huawei Technologies will provide consultancy and advisory services in agriculture, smart manufacturing under Industry 4.0, tourism, smart city planning, e-commerce, digital infrastructure, inclusive connectivity and digital government.

“This will greatly assist in achieving our aspirations of digitising the state government,” he said in a statement here today. 

Hajiji is presently in China for a working visit. 

Meanwhile, Huawei Malaysia CEO, Simon Sun said Huawei is prepared to support Sabah’s pursuit to transform into a smart, digital and sustainability state. 

The MoU, among others, will provide Huawei Technologies the opportunity to explore collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-centric digital services related to government, business, and community. 

Sabah Public Services director-general Datuk Zainuddin Aman and Sun were signatories to the MoU. 

Also present were Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Huawei Board Director and president of Huawei Digital Power, Hou Jinlong and Huawei president of global public sector, Xia Zun.

Prior to the signing ceremony, the chief minister was also taken on a tour of Huawei Technologies on smart city operations, intelligent education at the Huawei Enterprise Business Von Neumann Exhibition Hall. – The Vibes, November 7, 2023
