THE fear of going out to crowded spaces during these times is real. Still, we crave hanging out and spending time with friends and family beyond the four walls of our house.

For all of us who are looking for a fun, relaxing and chill activity to do with friends and family, WIA Art Studio in Plaza Bukit Jalil, is your next go-to place.

Unlike many art studios that offer workshops with a set painting, WIA holds a series of pre-determined workshops as well as free ‘art jamming’ slots.

Whether you prefer to approach a pre-selected piece of art, or attempt to create something of your own inspiration, WIA accommodates all.

(psstt, you can even go and just splash paint around with their Dutch Pour / Fluid Acrylic Painting session.)

Founder, owner and instructor of WIA. Art Studio, Carmen Chin, opened the studio not only to fulfill her long-time dream, but also to offer a space where people can be free to do art as they please.

As an interior designer and artist, Carmen believes that art is limitless and adheres to no-man’s rules.

“I had a client who painted a scenery where the sky was pink, and the ocean below it was blue. Logically, the ocean would be pink as a result of the reflection of the sky, but it was what the artist was inspired to do, so we just ran with it.”

Carmen’s calm and patient demeanour creates a stress-free space for you to just get crazy and be ‘artistic’.

Even if you think your artwork will make Picasso turn in his grave, Carmen will reassure you that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and guide you with your piece until you are happy with it.

She truly exemplifies the WIA name.

When Carmen shared that WIA represented ‘Who I am.’, we immediately thought that this was just another case of bad grammar gone wrong, but when she further explained what it meant, it made so much sense.

“WIA with the full stop at the end serves as a statement. With the studio, I always encourage freedom in art. Instead of posing the question ‘Who Am I?’, Who I Am is a definite representation of the artist. Allowing all who enter the building to freely express themselves confidently with no judgement.”

Carmen does not only offer an array of art workshops and art jamming sessions with complimentary drinks – one of it being wine – and snacks, she also opens the studio for private events.

The calming and spacious interior of WIA. Art Studio is great for getting away from crowded places and spend quality time with your loved ones; getting artistic, as well as taking some amazing #ootd pictures.

Carmen is also very conscious about her clients’ safety during these difficult times and ensures that the studio is not packed with a crowd. So rest assured that you will not be stuck in a tuna can with enthusiastic wannabe-Vincent van Gogh.

So, what are you waiting for? Make an appointment with WIA. Art Studio and start playing with colours.

They can be reached through their Facebook and Instagram page. – The Vibes, December 20, 2020
