EDUCATION Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek has instructed her lawyers to issue a letter of demand to an individual over the circulation of a video she says misrepresented her remarks in Parliament.
In a Facebook post, Fadhlina said the video, uploaded on Oct 6, used audio from her 2023 speech on the Palestine Solidarity Week programme but presented it in a context that appeared to link her remarks to school safety incidents and pupils’ deaths.
She said she welcomed criticism of the Education Ministry’s policies and decisions, describing differences of opinion as part of a healthy democracy.
However, she drew a distinction between legitimate criticism and the use of remarks out of context in a way that could mislead the public.
“There is a clear difference between criticising a decision and taking a statement out of context to give the public a false impression,” she said.
Fadhlina added that freedom of expression must go hand in hand with responsibility for the truth and accuracy of information, while a person’s reputation must also be protected under the rule of law.
“Criticism should continue to be welcomed. The manipulation of facts must not be allowed,” she said. - October 19, 2026
