A STUDENT has been detained to assist investigations into the death of a secondary school student at a school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said today.
Fadhlina said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) was investigating the incident and that the Education Ministry and the school would cooperate fully with the authorities.
“I have visited the school this morning and met school staff, District Education Office and State Education Department officials, as well as police, to get an account of the incident and the steps taken following it,” she said.
Fadhlina also met the student’s family at the hospital to convey her condolences.
Separately, she said the ministry would examine whether safety measures and school procedures had been properly followed.
She has directed the Education Ministry’s Inspectorate to conduct an immediate audit to determine whether there had been any breaches of procedures or the law.
“No party will be protected if found to have committed misconduct or violated the law,” she said, adding that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the investigations and in accordance with the law.
The ministry is also providing counselling and psychological support to the bereaved family and school staff affected by the incident.
Fadhlina said the ministry’s immediate priority was the welfare of the student’s family, while ensuring the school community continued to receive the necessary support.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said police have opened an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He confirmed that a 16-year-old male teenager has been detained to assist with the investigation into the incident.
"The victim was reportedly taken to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital (HTAN) in Kuala Pilah, where he was pronounced dead," he said in a statement today.
He said preliminary investigations revealed the incident occurred around 8 pm yesterday at a school dormitory in the Kuala Pilah district. – September 26, 2026
