THE Ministry of Finance (MOF) has warned Malaysians against believing or sharing a viral poster claiming that service charges for QR payments will be introduced from Nov 1, 2026, describing the information as false.

The warning comes amid concerns over the circulation of misleading information on payment-related policies, which could cause confusion among consumers and businesses relying on QR codes for cashless transactions.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry stressed that no official announcement had been made regarding the introduction of QR payment service charges as claimed in the poster.

It urged the public to obtain accurate information through the ministry's official channels and verify claims before sharing them to prevent the spread of misinformation.

The ministry also reminded the public to exercise caution when encountering unverified notices on social media, particularly those involving changes to payment arrangements and financial services. - October 18, 2026
