PARTI Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) has barred Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad from all official party activities for three months, effective Oct 20, following his admission over a case that recently came to public attention.

In a statement dated Oct 17, the party said the decision would remain in force until Jan 19, 2027.

“Bersama takes this development seriously and maintains that every issue involving the party’s leadership and members must be addressed appropriately to preserve the party’s integrity, credibility and public confidence,” it said.

The party described the decision as necessary and reasonable, while acknowledging Nik Nazmi’s contributions and commitment to Bersama since its relaunch in May 2026.

It was earlier reported that the former Natural Resources And Environmental Sustainability minister confirmed that he was among two people detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) two days ago, admitting that the incident was a mistake but denying any improper conduct.

In a statement posted on Instagram earlier today, Nik Nazmi, who now leads Bersama, said he had been discussing matters with colleagues at a studio in Brickfields before they decided to continue the discussion in Petaling Jaya to review materials related to a project.

He said only he and the woman detained with him were at the location when JAIS officers arrived.

“I acknowledge that this was a mistake. As I also explained to the JAIS officers, we did not engage in any improper conduct that could give rise to suspicion,” he said. - October 17, 2026
