KUALA LUMPUR – Music fans all over Malaysia were able to let their voices be heard as they picked their most favourite local and international artists and songs in the Joox Top Music Awards Malaysia (Mid Year) 2021, presented by streaming platform Joox. 

As music fans used their power to put their favourite rising stars in the spotlight, this year’s big winners were determined from 126 million votes and streaming counts in Joox from all over the country – a tenfold increase from 2020. 

Also this year, 22 Joox Rooms were made active by fans and artists to talk about the awards and vote in real-time. As a special token of gratitude, the award-winners are set to interact with their beloved fans on Joox Rooms today and tomorrow (July 30-31) – an event Malaysian music lovers will surely not want to miss.

Showcasing which local tracks music fans have sung along to and danced with the most, the winners for the Top 5 Hit: Local chart were announced. They comprised Reedzwann’s 'Adakah Ini Mimpi'; Naqiu and Vanessa Reynauld’s 'Rindu Separuh Nyawa'; Siti Nordiana and Nubhan’s 'Sekali Lagi'; Kaka Azraff and Jaz’s 'Karma'; and Joox Originals 'Sama Sama Suka' by One Avenue Band. 

Further highlighting Malaysia’s diverse music tastes, fans have chosen their five favourite pop stars spanning across different genres, with Haqiem Rusli, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Khai Bahar, Naim Daniel and Ukays grabbing the Top 5 Artist: Local slots.

Among this year’s big winners, Khai Bahar gathered the most support from fans – as he bagged the Top Fans Pick award, entirely decided by Malaysian fans for the first time, receiving a total of 15.6 million votes.

On the international stage, the five hottest hits from world-renowned artists were named by Malaysian fans, pushing 'Leave The Door Open' by Bruno Mars, Anderson.Paak, Silk Sonic; 'Build A B*tch (Explicit)' by Bella Poarch; 'Reckless' by Madison Beer; 'Drivers License' by Olivia Rodrigo; and 'Hold On' by Justin Bieber to the top of the Top 5 Hit: International chart, where Bieber’s star has shone brightly in the same category for the fourth time this year.

It is also Ariana Grande’s fourth time to be included in the Top 5 Artist: International chart, sharing the spotlight with Alan Walker, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Jay Chou 周杰伦. 

The unstoppable power of K-Pop as a global music phenomenon is as hot as ever, as Joox Malaysia users chose their Top 5 Hit: K-Pop picks. BTS’ 'Butter'; Rosé’s 'On The Ground' and 'Gone'; Ateez’s 'Fireworks (I’m The One)' and (G)I-DLE’s 'HWAA' dominated the charts, with BTS winning for the fourth time in the category.

Proving the strength of Malaysian music fans’ voice, the fans of Ateez have presented a united front to vote their idols into this year’s category.
