KUALA LUMPUR – Local indie rock sensations Jaggfuzzbeats take centre stage along with Josh Thomas, TimeMachine, Merchants of Mercury at Drum Asia Studios, Hartamas.
To be held on November 27, the Syok Rock! 2021 show aims to bring music back to the city after the creative industry was shut down due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Zazz Productions and Drum Asia are thrilled to help restart the music industry after nearly six months of being locked down. This event is funded by Cendana's Create Now 2.0 initiative.
Music gives us hope during difficult times and we would like to be a beacon of possibility to everyone involved in Malaysia’s creative space.
The featured artists are:
- Jaggfuzzbeats – Jangly guitar licks like the Kings of Leon with foot-tapping drum patterns and a country drawl. They are true-to-their-school guitar-slingers. They perform buff rock & roll with genre-splicing power moves. Their 2021 EP ‘Subtle Shift’ this year stage dives into a grittier and textured soundscape inspired by the 90s rock era.
- Josh Thomas – Homegrown blues in the vein of Gary Clark Jr mixed with the indie spirit of The Black Keys. Thomas picked up the guitar when he was eight and has been hooked ever since. His song, 'Still Falling' is his variation of the baby-I’m-howlin’-for-you garage rock. Listen to it on Spotify.
- Merchants of Mercury – Hard Rock quartet dripped in Southern Rock influences. They’re inspired by Morricone's 1960s spaghetti-Western scores such as 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' which reflects stoicism while exploring the divisions between good and evil. The band won GM Klang's GM10 Rockstar: Battle of the Bands in 2019.
- TimeMachine – A Selangor-based, four-piece, all-girl Alternative Rock group influenced by Paramore, Panic at the Disco, The Runaways and Queen. Their catchy hooks and soaring vocals shimmer like a mirage on a hot day. Their music urges the crowd to let loose and have fun and not worry too much about what the mainstream thinks.
Fans can choose to watch the event either by purchasing tickets to catch the event live at Drumasia at RM35 per pax (limited to 60 pax) or via online streaming for RM5 (early bird till November 21) or RM10 (after early bird).
