KUALA LUMPUR – Up-and-coming local pop artist Claudia has recently released a pop punk-inspired track titled 'Mikaela'.
The Kuching-raised singer-songwriter dropped the track on major streaming platforms on December 10, along with a lyric video on YouTube.
As per a press release, the artist, whose real name is Claudia Tan, indicates that the song is about the downfall of a relationship, a love triangle, infidelity, and emotions that come after.
In the track, which is written from a girl's perspective, Claudia laments the resentment and bitterness she feels towards both parties but also reaches closure on the betrayal.
"I thought that we were so cool, That you could never do me dirty. How did you get so cruel? Started texting really flirty," she sings in the opening lines of the track.
"I don’t wanna fight lemme tell u something. If we got down I’m good at knockout punching. Said you’re a love machine, Let me toy with your machinery?."
The track is produced by frequent collaborator Irwinandfire, who also worked on her two previous two radio hits 'Bodies' and 'Nice Guy'.
Claudia, who is relatively a new entry to the Malaysian music scene, is best known for her 70s-inspired bop 'Bodies', a track that went viral on TikTok and was met with local acclaim.
'Bodies' was released in October of 2020, racking up repeated plays on radio for several months after its release.
Her songs are mainly centred around deeply personal and relatable experiences with love, sex, heartbreak, and "millennial artificiality".
Aside from her musical endeavours, Claudia is also a well-known Wattpad writer.
Her second novel entitled "Perfect Addiction" is being made into a Hollywood film by Constantin Films and Wattpad Studios. – The Vibes, December 26, 2021
