IF the world of art has Picasso, we in the fraternity of photographers have Henri Cartier-Bresson. He is the world’s greatest documentary photographer and a master in candid photography.

One of his concepts was the decisive moment – a fleeting meaningful instant movement captured by the camera that shaped modern-day street photography and inspired generations of photojournalists.

The Frenchman once said: “When a photographer raises his camera at something that is taking place in front of him, there is one moment at which the elements in motion are in balance. Photography must seize upon this moment.”

The decisive moment is a concept that is essentially about perfect timing where the photographer pressed his shutter button to capture the perfect moment. But, you need to wait.

Here, The Vibes' photographer Abd Razak Latif captures a beautiful and quiet moment during the first day of Ramadan. The main picture shows a child is watching the photographer while the prayer congregation is performing tarawih prayers.

In the second picture is a slow movement of the congregation praying. But one of them seemed to be stationary, possibly finishing her prayer recitation.

The last picture shows what would often be seen every time during congregational prayer. A small child is busy doing their own thing while the mother is praying. – The Vibes, April 3, 2022
