"BERPECAH antara mereka, musnah dihembus Pawana, begitulah kisah hidup dari zaman ke zaman, Pawana menghembus akan hati insan! (Split between them, destroyed by Pawana, that's the story of life from time to time, Pawana blew the human heart!)

Unlike one of the stanzas of the song ‘Pawana’ which has already become the most epic anthem in every encore or closing concert of Search, the giant rock band that previously faced a protracted internal crisis, has also suffered the worst split.

The split between them must have long been expected of some of their hardcore fans. Like an egg at the tip of a horn, just waiting for the time for everything to fall apart, followed by a series of dramas that unravel one by one.

Their internal crisis began when the late Yazit Ahmad was around. After Amy's announcement to retire as a singer, Nasir, Din and Kid were left reeling to continue their rock music struggles.

But soon, another plot twist appeared in the Search drama. Nasir had also left Din and Kid. The two guitarist siblings continue to go by the name of Search, along with their musical activities.

At that time, a war of disputes continued to exist among the original and old members of this Search.

Their drama became even more interesting when Amy was reunited with other members of the original Search band namely Hillary Ang (guitarist) and Nasir Daud (bass).

Also joining the band are legendary guitarist Lefthanded's Man Kidal and Joy who will take on the duties of the late Yazit Ahmad as a drummer.

Meanwhile, Din and Kid will feature legendary Lefthanded bassist Yan, and Minn to replace Paie (drums). Their new singer from Indonesia, Denden Gonjalez, sparked a global viral incident last year when he joined The Voice Bulgaria singing 'She's Gone'.

Interestingly, Yan and Man Kidal, were both involved in the making of Search's first album, Cinta Buatan Malaysia in 1985.

Meanwhile, the drummer, Joy, who joined Amy used to play in the group Senna and Satira. Minn is the drummer of the independent scene music band, Naratu.

Now, the two Search bands will hold a concert in June.

Amy's Search will perform at the Konsert Endemik Search at Zepp Kuala Lumpur on June 4 and 5.

Kid and Din, or Kidin's Search, will perform the Search Rocking On Roof Top Concert on the roof of the Campbell Complex on June 11.

Both of these concerts have their own uniqueness. The concept, repertoire and atmosphere of the performance venue are completely different. So is the lineup of musicians with the addition of new members.

Sure, these two concerts will trigger ‘something’ different from their previous concerts. Thus, concerts by these two Search bands should not be seen as a competition.

Instead, it deserves to be celebrated, especially for its 41-year involvement in the country’s music industry. And, during these years, Search remains a Malaysian rock giant. That's a fact!

Regardless, we list the uniqueness of Konsert Search Endemik vs Konsert Search Rocking On Roof Top: -

Band lineup

Amy's Search features two Malaysian hero guitars, Hillary Ang and Man Kidal who are household names. These two guitarists are sure to provide amazing sound and guitar work in the Konsert Endemik Search.

Joy, on the other hand, is considered an incredible drummer and no one will deny Amy's vocal style and greatness that has long been ingrained in the spirit of hardcore Search fans. Amy is Search and Search is Amy.

There's no lacking in Kidin's Search. They have held on to the ‘sound’ of Search. Their sound is what hardcore Search fans definitely want to hear.

Yan is one of Malaysia's top bass players. Yan’s combination with Paie, is indeed solid. However, Paie's position has now been replaced by Minn. Their compatibility will be known only later.

Regardless, the new vocalist, Denden Gonjalez from Indonesia, is also their weapon.

Concert location

Amy's Search will be performing at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, which is a sophisticated performance venue with an international infrastructure that will be opening soon.

They are local artists who will be performing at the venue. Like Zepp Kuala Lumpur, their performance will feature an international concert element.

Kidin's Search chose to do an old school rock show by holding it on the roof of the Campbell Complex.

It will definitely bring back nostalgia for some hardcore Search fans in the 1980s era and the era of rock music explosion. It was then that the Campbell Complex became known as a ‘port’ for rockers, other than the Pertama Complex and the Wilayah Complex.

Both of these music bands promise a cohesive sound system and lighting system!

Concert repertoire

Amy's Search will perform in a concert lasting two hours. Search’s nostalgic songs became part of their repertoire. However, they will also present two new songs titled 'Endemik 1' and 'Endemik 2'.

Created by a young composer from Sabah, 'Endemik 1' is a song produced with a fast tempo, while 'Endemik 2' is more of a ballad genre with a two-minute song intro.

Kidin's Search will also perform in a two-hour concert. In addition to performing Search's nostalgic songs, it seems that they prefer to play the ones that have rarely been sung before.

Among the songs that will be performed are those on Search's fifth album, Karisma, which was released in 1990 and Search's sixth album, Rampage (1992).

Hardcore fans

Will Search hardcore fans support these two concerts? Or will it be split into two groups?

For fans from the professional group, maybe they will be more comfortable choosing to watch a concert at Zepp Kuala Lumpur.

However, for fans of the ‘street rocker’ style, perhaps the roof of the Campbell Complex is more suited to the rock-till-death soul.

For those who do not want to miss the opportunity to see the Search version of Amy and Kidin in action, surely they would not mind catching both concerts. After all, the dates are different.

To be sure, both Search are still ‘rocking’ and dominating the recording and music industry of our homeland. – The Vibes, May 16, 2022
