EARLIER today, Netflix announced on social media that they were making available for streaming the 2004 film, Puteri Gunung Ledang, from November 26.

“The iconic legend of Hang Tuah and the celestial Puteri Gunung Ledang needs no introduction,” was the streaming giant’s message. 

A trailer for the release was also uploaded on YouTube:

The fantasy epic, directed by Saw Teong Hin, was made at a cost of US$4 million, and starred Tiara Jacquelina and M. Nasir. The former plays the princess of Gunung Ledang, while the latter played legendary warrior Hang Tuah. Romance and adventure ensue. 

Tiara Jacquelina and M. Nasir also provided the two theme songs for the film.

Besides bringing success at the box-office, Puteri Gunung Ledang won several awards at the 18th Malaysian Film Festival. Including best director and for best screenplay.

“Puteri Gunung Ledang was my first film, and very close to my heart,” director Saw Teong Hin said in a press release.

“I’m excited to share this film again with Malaysians and a regional audience, especially the younger generation who may not have had a chance to watch it yet.”

Puteri Gunung Ledang was also turned into a successful musical by Tiara’s production company Enfiniti,in which the main role, Hang Tuah, was played by Stephen Rahman. – The Vibes, November 19, 2020
