A ‘FREAKY Friday’ sequel may be in the works. While the project has yet to be greenlit, Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that Disney is ‘interested’ and that co-star Lindsay Lohan is onboard with the idea.
“There is no scheduled date, but we’re talking,” Curtis told Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’. “People are talking. The right people are talking.”
Curtis said that she and Lohan discussed their possible big-screen reunion last Sunday.
“I’m 64 in a week and Lindsay is 36…[A sequel] lends itself so beautifully. We’re both committed to it, and it’s not ours to make. It’s Disney’s to make and I think they’re interested and we’re talking,” she said.
Considering that Curtis resuscitated the ‘Halloween’ franchise and studios placing bets on IP properties, it would be no surprise if multiple instalments of ‘Freak Friday’ films are on the table. However, Curtis is keeping her cards close to her chest, but remained cautiously optimistic.
“Let’s just try to get another one made. We’re a ways away,” she remarked.
Lohan, who has dropped out of the limelight, recently returned to acting with a starring role in the Netflix holiday movie ‘Falling for Christmas’, opposite ‘Glee’ alum Chord Overstreet.
Released in 2003, ‘Friday Friday’ is based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel of the same name. Curtis and Lohan starred as a mother and daughter whose bodies are switched, and the movie became a hit earning more than US$160 million on a US$26 million budget.
Curtis went on to earn a Golden Globe nomination for her role. – The Vibes, November 18, 2022
