HONORARY Oscar winner and action superstar Jackie Chan recently announced that he will be returning to Malaysia to shoot a new movie next year, according to Oriental Daily.

The 68-year-old actor said he has fond memories of the country, having been here in 1992 for the production of Police Story 3, alongside recent Oscar winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.

Chan explained that he initially intended to move into production of the yet-untitled film in 2020 but his plans were waylaid due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he remains committed to return and work in Malaysia again. In his words, "I miss Malaysia a lot and I know Malaysians welcomes me."

Details of the film remain uncertain, but Chan revealed that the new movie will be a drama. He also joked, "I will not be blowing up roads and bridges."

Chan's contribution to the entertainment industry has been immense, and his stunts and action sequences have been hugely popular with audiences worldwide for many decades, going back to his roots in Hong Kong cinema, with stops in Hollywood.

His work in Malaysia has also been recognised, and he was honoured with a Datukship from Tuanku Abdul Halim in 2015.

Chan can be seen next in Ride On, which premieres in cinemas nationwide on April 13. The movie centers around a washed-up stuntman and his stunt horse who become an overnight social media sensation when their real-life fight with debt collectors goes viral. – The Vibes, April 6, 2023
