CELEBRATE Spain's most visited monument at the photo exhibition “The Alhambra, Paradise on Earth”.
The Islamic Arts Museum and the Embassy of Spain in Malaysia, with the support of The Trust of The Alhambra and Generalife, will launch the exhibition at the Inverted Dome Open Space Gallery of the Museum on July 5.
The Alhambra (“the red castle” in Arabic) includes a citadel, palaces, mosques and gardens.
Surrounded by lush nature and fresh water supply, its builders wished to leave to posterity an enduring example of their conception of power and the world, but also a manual of the use of Islamic building resources and decorative skill to reflect the harmony of paradise and divine beauty.
The monumental complex shows the most refined expression of the Nasrid kingdom. It is an icon of Spanish historical-artistic heritage and of humanity.
The exhibition will showcase over 60 photos and videos, which include both historical and recent ones, to highlight the grandeur of the impressive architectural masterpiece.
Every inch of its construction is a carefully calculated oasis, conveying the idea of a paradisiacal garden on earth.
From the grace of the Generalife gardens to the forest of elegant columns and Nasrid spires of the Patio de los Leones, visitors can admire the beauty of the magnificent monument that was declared a Spanish National Monument in 1870.
It has been included in the Unesco World’s Cultural Heritage list since 1984.
The exhibition will take visitors on a journey that resembles the one taken by the millions of visitors to the Alhambra, the most visited monument in Spain.
Visitors will be transported to Paradise on Earth and can enjoy the serene architecture reflected in the pond of the Courtyard of the Myrtles, the sound of fountains and water channels on the ground, and the careful selection of plants that make up the Generalife gardens.
The photo exhibition will be on view in the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia from July 6 to August 6. The screening of the film “The Builders of The Alhambra” will take place on Saturday, July 8 at 3pm. – The Vibes, July 3, 2023
