PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated students who obtained their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 examination results today.

In a post on Facebook, he said he hoped all students who obtained excellent results would continue their efforts and prepare to enter the next phase of life.

“For those who did not succeed, this is not the end as there are still many opportunities to create new successes,” he said.

A total 11,713 SPM 2023 candidates achieved excellent results with grades A+, A, and A- in all subjects.

Education Director-General Azman Adnan said the achievement of the 2023 SPM candidates was better, with them recording a National Average Grade (GPN) of 4.60 compared to 4.74 by the candidates in the previous year.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the number of absent SPM examination candidates for 2023 fell by 1.2% compared to the year before.

She said a total of 97.4% of 373,525 candidates sat for the SPM examinations for 2023, which Fadhlina attributed to interventions undertaken at every level, involving the state and district education departments and school authorities.

“The interventions were conducted last year and managed to bring a positive effect.

“Even so, the Education Department (MOE) will continue to pay attention to candidates who were absent for their SPM exams in 2023,” she said in a statement.

She said several immediate measures have been taken by the ministry, including locating the candidates and offering them a chance to retake the exam.

Fadhlina said the national average grade for SPM 2023 was 4.60 with 93.5% of candidates managing to receive their certificates, and 11,713 candidates scoring straight As.

“This is a far better result compared to the previous year. The ministry is optimistic that the excellent 2023 SPM results will be a catalyst in the continuous efforts of reforming the country’s education (system),” she said.

She also congratulated all 2023 SPM candidates, teachers and ministry staff who worked hard to ensure an overall increase in performance. – May 27, 2024
