THERE is an increasing number of fresh finding it difficult to adapt to rapid technological changes in the industrial sectors.

The education and training acquired from their studies are outrun by the constantly evolving technology in the workplace.

This is the latest feedback gathered by the Higher Education Ministry at the national level.

The situation is prevalent in Sarawak as well as in other states throughout the country, said National Higher Education deputy minister Datuk Mustapha Samud.

"We are facing increasing challenges in trying to develop a workforce that can adapt fast to the constantly evolving technological changes in the many industrial arenas today.

"The changes are very swift and constantly evolving to higher levels.

"Fresh graduates are finding it very challenging to adapt to these rapid technological transformations in the working world.

"It is going to be a big challenge for us to train our students to be ready to adapt to such rapid changes once they enter the working world.

"These are realities we in the ministry are facing in our quest to develop a more versatile workforce among our students," he said when speaking at an education event in Miri.

Mustapha said institutions of higher education also need to brainstorm about these issues.

They too will have to come up with strategies to help their students handle the fast changing technological landscape.

As far as the academic side is concerned, the quality is there, he stressed.

The emerging challenge is the training needed to prepare the students for the changes they will be facing once they step into the workplace after they graduate, he added. – April 24, 2025
