THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched its first-ever scholarship initiative, introducing two fully funded programmes designed to develop skilled young professionals in the country’s dynamic communications and multimedia (C&M) sector.

The newly unveiled MCMC LEGASI and MCMC CARE scholarships aim to build a future-ready talent pipeline by offering structured industry exposure and academic support in fields such as telecommunications, media, regulatory policy, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

“This marks the first time MCMC is offering scholarships — an initiative that reflects our long-term commitment to nurturing high-calibre talent and advancing Malaysia’s communications and multimedia sector,” the Commission said in a statement.

The MCMC LEGASI (Leaders of the Next-Generation Scholarship) is a merit-based award for outstanding students pursuing undergraduate degrees in C&M-related disciplines at leading local or international universities. Recipients will receive full financial support, industrial training placements, and guaranteed employment with MCMC upon graduation.

“Scholars will be exposed to areas such as regulatory development, digital infrastructure, policy innovation, and network security,” MCMC stated. “They will also undergo professional training and certification to ensure they are equipped to lead the sector in the future.”

Meanwhile, the MCMC CARE scholarship targets high-potential students from underprivileged backgrounds who are undertaking undergraduate studies at public universities in Malaysia. In addition to full tuition and living expenses, CARE recipients will also participate in structured internships with MCMC.

“These scholarships reflect MCMC’s commitment to nurturing youth who can meaningfully contribute to the country’s digital progress,” the Commission noted. “Through merit- and needs-based opportunities, we aim to help young Malaysians grow, thrive, and build careers in the C\&M field.”

Applications for both scholarships open from 24 June to 24 July 2025, with successful candidates to be notified in August 2025.
