THE Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) said that wearing a tie will no longer be mandatory for school students starting next year's school session.
The matter was announced through a circular dated December 17, following a decision made at the MOE 2025 Special Professional Meeting held on December 8.
The circular was signed by the Director-General of Education, Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.
According to the MOE, the policy stipulates that no coercion or pressure can be imposed on students regarding wearing a tie at school.
The ministry also stressed its concern for the responsibility of parents in providing their children with school supplies ahead of the start of the new session.
“To ease the burden, the Ministry of Education took into account the current needs of students before making this decision,” according to a statement uploaded on the ministry’s official website.
Among the main factors considered include the local hot and humid climate, which is found to be less suitable for daily necktie wear and can affect the comfort of students.
In addition, the move is also in line with the Ministry of Education's efforts to reduce the financial pressure borne by households, especially in the provision of school supplies. – December 30, 2025
