A COUPLE, both 19-year-old college students, was arrested following the death of a newborn baby girl in the toilet bowl of a house in Taman Setia Mutiara, Kluang, Johor, on Wednesday.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said a report was received at 1 pm on Wednesday after the female student was admitted to the Enche Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital, Kluang, after she was believed to have just given birth.

According to him, the student contacted her teacher after giving birth to the baby, before she was taken to the hospital for examination.

"The results of the examination showed that the student had given birth to a baby and was pregnant with another baby girl.

"Further investigation at her rented house found the body of a dead baby girl," he said.

An examination of the baby also found several stab wounds on the victim's body, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

"Follow-up action has resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old male student who is suspected of being the female student's boyfriend to assist in the investigation," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 315 of the Penal Code for causing or attempting to cause the death of a newborn baby. – July 30, 2026
