MORE than 26,000 applications have been received for the admission of six-year-old students since the opening of Year One Registration for the 2027 Academic Session.

Director-General of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad, said that more than 165,000 applications were also received for the admission of seven-year-old Year One students.

He said both cohorts have received positive responses since online registration opened on February 15.

"Alhamdulillah, as of the third day of registration, the Ministry of Education has received 165,906 applications for students born in 2020 who will be seven years old in 2027.

"For the category of six-year-old students born in 2021 who applied to enter Year One early, we received 26,229 applications," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

He added that parents of six-year-old children who registered late can apply manually from April 1 to November 15 if their children are ready to go to school.

"Parents can continue to deal with the District Education Office (PPD), State Education Department (JPN) or the school chosen for their child's placement.

"From September 1 to 30, we will coordinate Year One placements by PPD for appeal placements," he said.

He said appeals can be made based on several factors, including a change of residence, need to place siblings in the same school or other reasonable considerations.

In the meantime, parents who are still in doubt about the readiness of their six-year-old child are encouraged to seek professional advice from the school or the education officer.

"The Ministry of Education, through schools, PPDs and JPNs are ready to provide professional advice so that parents can make the best decision for their children," he said.

Registration for Year One of the 2027 Academic Session is still open until March 31 online through the Ministry of Education Integrated System (MOEIS) at https://idme.moe.gov.my – February 18, 2026
