THE government has approved the expansion of the RM400 FlySiswa flight ticket subsidy for domestic routes between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, which is expected to benefit about 50,000 students this year compared to 44,000 students last year.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision was made at the Cabinet Meeting on March 4 after taking into account the complaints of students, especially from Sabah and Sarawak, regarding the cost of returning to campus or to their hometowns.
According to him, the matter was also discussed with Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook to ensure that the program continues and is strengthened.
“There are many students from Sabah and Sarawak, so we will continue FlySiswa. This RM400 flight ticket is a subsidy to reduce the burden on students of higher learning institutions for domestic routes between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Prime Minister’s Meeting with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) today.
Also present was the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
Anwar said that previously, the assistance only involved students from public higher education institutions (IPTA), but the government decided to expand the eligibility to more institutions.
He said that the assistance now also includes students from the Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (ASWARA), the Institute of Human Resource Training (ILJTM), semi-government universities, state-owned higher education institutions and the Plantation and Commodity Institute.
He added that the measure was taken to ensure that more students could enjoy the flight subsidy assistance provided by the government. – March 9, 2026
