PUTRAJAYA – The Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM) will open student admission to the Bachelor of Teaching with Tamil language specialisation for September 2021.
The Education Ministry (MoE) in a statement today said the decision was made following the projection that there will be a need for Tamil language teachers in primary schools by 2026.
Regarding scholarship for the Bachelor of Education (ISMP) in Tamil, MoE stated it is not being offered this year because there is a surplus of teachers of the subject in secondary schools.
“The MoE always ensures that the placements offered for any programme is such that manpower meets the ministry’s projections. This measure is also to avoid the surplus of teachers and mismatch of subject options,” said the statement.
On February 19, MoE made an announcement to offer the ISMP scholarship, which was to be open online from March 1 to 31.
ISMP scholarships are offered to outstanding first- or second-year students at public universities who are pursuing their studies in certain fields. These students will then be appointed as education service officers and placed in secondary schools under the MoE.
The ministry said the scholarship offer was made based on the planning and projection of the teacher requirement options in secondary schools from year to year.
This year, the ministry said it has projected that 28 subjects will require manpower in secondary schools, which need to be filled by 2025. – Bernama, February 25, 2021
