KOTA KINABALU – Students and educators in Sabah will now have greater access to accurate education information, thanks to the launch of the Sabah Education Department Student Career and Educational Forum Series on Monday.
The programme, which uses YouTube live-streaming as its platform, is aimed at students, teachers and school administrators.
It provides educational information and opportunities available in Sabah and across Malaysia.
Sabah Special Tasks Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, who officiated the launch, said the programme was good for students who wish to further their studies at the tertiary level.
“The programme will provide them with the right educational information, including which universities are suitable for them.
“They will also be exposed to the best careers or fields suitable with their educational achievements and they will also get to know about any scholarship opportunities available for them.
“We have received good responses, with close to 10,000 online views so far, and I am confident more people will get on board.
“Hopefully, it will be of benefit to those viewing, especially those who wish to further their studies after receiving their exam results,” he said.
He added the scholarships and study loans include those from Yayasan Sabah, the Sabah government and Muis Zakat.
Previously, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had said under the state's IPT Registration Cash Assistance (Budi) programme, students wanting to pursue higher education from families whose income is less than RM5,000 will be given a one-off assistance of RM2,000.
“We will identify about 5,000 students who will receive the Budi assistance from the state government, as announced by Hajiji at the tabling of the state budget recently.”
He also said the Special Cash Assistance for Examinations (Bakti) of RM200 will also be given to 30,000 students.
The Sabah government has allocated RM12 million to assist students wanting to pursue their studies at institutes of higher learning, as well as Form 5 and Form 6 students who will be taking their exams. – The Vibes, March 31, 2021
