KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry will be releasing an updated circular on the transfer of teachers to clarify the issue, said its minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

“We are aware that the transfer of teachers has been an ongoing issue. To address the matter, the ministry is drafting a plan on the implementation of such transfers in a holistic manner,” he said in reply to Sabri Azit (Jerai-PAS), who raised the matter in Dewan Rakyat today.

“We will be issuing a new circular with guidelines soon to clarify the issue and replace the previous circular, issued in 1975.”

Sabri told the lower House that 6,621 teachers applied to transfer out of the state they are in, while 7,299 applied to transfer to other states, raising concerns if the application would be considered in the light of the one-off intake of 18,000 teachers.

Radzi said the transfer applications will be decided based on the needs of the respective schools.

Earlier, the minister revealed that as of yesterday, there are 21,564 vacancies for teachers in the country.

He added that the shortfall will be addressed with the recruitment of 18,702 graduate teachers on a permanent basis, and for those who did not qualify, there are 2,862 contract positions available.

Radzi said in matching teaching options for teachers, consideration will not be just on their core degrees but subjects related to their degrees.

The ministry had in June said an offer of a special one-off teacher recruitment with 18,702 slots for education service officers, grade DG41 would be issued.

He had said that the placements would be done in stages beginning October. – The Vibes, September 20, 2021
