KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines Academy (MAB Academy) has collaborated with approved flight training organisations under the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and a few higher education institutions to establish new qualification standards for their pilots.
In a statement, MAB Academy said that under the new programme called “Project Landscape”, graduate pilots from the school will receive diplomas and degrees recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, via programmes designed to improve the current pilot training quality.
Its chief executive officer Kamarudin Kamilin said that the new curriculum will allow pilots to improve their business acumen and management skills, crucial in grooming high-quality pilots.
“We need to leverage on the best young minds to foster them to their full potential, at the same time forcing us all to be disruptors in attracting and retaining the skilled workers and managers we require.
“Future airline pilots must be all-rounders; able to navigate the industry as pilots, managers, and businessmen at the same time.
“They must be exposed to the complexities of the aviation industry and ecosystem as early as possible by introducing a programme that provides them with the necessary skill sets while completing their initial training.
“This new programme will bring about the synergies between academic institutions, training organisations, policymakers, and the industry itself to build the pilots of tomorrow,” he said.
The memorandum of understanding was inked by Meritus College executive director Hisham Halim, University College of Aviation Malaysia chief executive Faiz Aizat Ab Manan, and BATS Aviation Sdn Bhd executive chairman Hazlee Jehan, while MAB Academy was represented by Kamarudin. – The Vibes, April 6, 2022
