KUALA LUMPUR – What is your choice when it comes to masks? Medical-grade, double-layered or purely fabric?
Scientists the world over have warned of Covid-19 mutations, with the pandemic now in its second year.
The Health Ministry has reported 19 cases of new variants detected in the period from May 24 to yesterday: four cases of the Delta variant (B.1.617.2), formerly known as the Indian variant, and 15 of the Beta variant (B.1.351), which used to be called the South African variant.
In view of this, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah suggested that the public take extra precautions, including wearing two masks when outdoors.
A survey by The Vibes shutterbug SADIQ ASYRAF at a vaccination centre recently found that most people were wearing two masks, with some also donning face shields.
There were those wearing patterned, fabric masks on top of the regular medical one, adding fashion to function.
Studies have shown that all proper face coverings provide a measure of protection against the coronavirus.
