[PHOTOS] A year that ended in flooded nightmares

KUALA LUMPUR – As of the time of writing, residents in areas affected by the recent massive floods are busy tidying up their flood-hit homes.

Locations such as Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam, Taman Sri Nanding in Hulu Langat, Batu 7 in Bestari Jaya, and Taman Bukit Mewah in Kajang were badly hit by floods last week after heavy rains.

Residents, assisted by volunteers, worked tirelessly to clean houses covered with sludge.

Pets and stray animals were also aided by volunteers from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals, Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association, and Malaysian Small Animal Veterinary Association.

However, the occasional downpours worry residents who have not been able to rest for fear that the floods will recur.

Water levels on the danger line in some dams have also made the authorities cautious about releasing water, as they fear it will cause floods to recur and worsen the situation.

There are also reports that a second wave of heavy rain will occur in the near future as the country is now transitioning to the monsoon season.

In any case, those affected by the previous floods continue to struggle with cleaning their houses and recovering items that are still good and usable.

For them, it will be an upset if it rains for even a moment. Their instincts will begin to tell them to find a safe place.

In fact, some of them have set up tents outside their houses to make it easier to act if heavy rain comes.
