KUALA LUMPUR – Christians across Malaysia yesterday flocked to churches across the country to observe Good Friday, one of the religion’s most important days of the calendar.
Falling on the Friday before Easter, the day commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, and is a day of mourning.
The most important events in Christianity are the death and later resurrection of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God, and whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity.
During special Good Friday services, Christians meditate on Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith.
In Malaysia, Good Friday is a public holiday in Sarawak and Sabah.
Good Friday also serves as a reminder to devotees of the importance of humility, selflessness, and service to others.
