BUKIT BENDARA MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid said it will take time for society to heal after decades of strife by certain quarters who had politicised race and religion.
"It takes time for our communities to heal with all kinds of attempts to divide us. It is always important to remind the younger generation that we are not like this. We see differences but it can be ironed out," said Syerleena.
She said this when responding to questions that polarisation continues to grip the country at certain levels.
She said that it is now timely for society to be at peace and to respect each community as fellow Malaysians in view of the uncertainty in the globalised world.
Syerleena spoke at the premiere of local production entitled "Mencari Ramlee" which made its debuts at the Golden Screen Cinema in Penang recently.
The movie set in the 1970s, details an actor impersonating Ramlee to find work in a challenging industry.
The main cast are Tony Eusoff and Sofia Jane Hisham.
"This is something which can rekindle the message of unity,” said Syerleena.
It is an element to remind future generations of the country's great tolerance rate and multi - ethnic as well as multi-cultural inheritance, she added.
"I have faith that such movies, especially the genre that P. Ramlee advocates can help the young understand the nation's history," said Syerleena.
The premiere also saw Penang Malays Association president Tan Sri Mohd Yussof Latiff present together with majority of the movie's cast and production crew. - June 16, 2025.
