KOTA KINABALU – Singer Fairuz Misran, who rose to fame partly for his uncanny resemblance to the legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee, is reported to have died yesterday.

The news was confirmed by his brother Ruzaidi via a Facebook post.

The singer passed away at 1.30pm at Hospital Licious Labuan. He was 38. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Fairuz caught public attention after a rendition of “Maafkan Kami” was uploaded as a video clip in December 2018.

The tune was sung originally by P. Ramlee in the movie Pendekar Bujang Lapuk.

Fans did a double take at Fairuz’s similar appearance to the nation’s entertainment legend.

The news of his death was also shared by lawyer Ahmad Fedtri Yahaya on his X account: “Received the news that Fairuz Misran has passed away. Al Fatihah.”

Fairuz was born in Sandakan, Sabah but grew up in Kimanis, Papar and then settled in Labuan.

At the age of 17, he participated in a Bintang P. Ramlee competition in Membakut and emerged the winner.

In 2010, he won the Bintang P. Ramlee Sabah Zone Championship and represented Sabah at the national level in the contest.

Meanwhile, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil conveyed his condolences to the singer’s family.

Fahmi shared his condolences through a post on his Facebook page.

“May the family of the deceased persevere with this test. Al-Fatihah,” he said. – The Vibes, September 9, 2023
