PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be in Penang over the weekend to launch two major projects on the mainland.
He will launch the Seberang Prai Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Butterworth, which Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng expects to be the catalyst for the rebirth of the mainland's oldest township as a hub for administration.
Anwar will also launch the proposed upgrading of the Sungai Dua-Juru toll stretch into an elevated highway along the North-South Expressway, and a new mosque in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency.
The UTC and elevated highway projects are crucial in both traffic disbursement and macro-economic activities in the old townships on the mainland.
The UTC at Penang Sentral, Butterworth marks another major step forward in improving government service delivery for the public.
“The RM40 million project occupies Levels 3 and 4 of Penang Sentral with over 60,000 square feet of space.
“It features a modern, corporate design with integrated digital systems, ensuring efficient, user-friendly, world-class service,” said Lim.
On its first day of operations, many visitors were already seen using the facility and expressing satisfaction with the convenience and comfort provided.
“With more people becoming aware of this new centre, UTC Penang Sentral is expected to attract visitors not only from Penang but also from neighbouring states, further boosting Butterworth’s economy.
“This is the 24th UTC in Malaysia and one of the most advanced so far,” added Lim. – November 6, 2025
