KUALA LUMPUR – We are coming into the last quarter of 2020 and the economic situation worldwide and also in Malaysia is not getting any better. However there will always be a small group of people who will be far removed from any negative economic situation.
Option One
This is why the super premium brands in Malaysia are still selling good numbers and launching brand new models. To start, earlier this week Bentley Kuala Lumpur launched their new Bentayga V8 First Edition. This all new Bentley Bentayga luxury SUV is easily noticed with its new oval shaped rear lamps and revised nose treatment shared with the latest Bentley Continental GT grand tourer. Launched globally just months ago in June, this new Bentayga is powered by a V8 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged petrol engine that develops an impressive 542bhp and a strong 770Nm of torque, resulting in a possible top speed of 290 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time in just 4.5 seconds.
Bentley interior furnishings have always been a class above the rest and shadowed only by Rolls Royce. Continuing with exceptional build quality, relaxing atmosphere and luxurious ambience, this new Bentayga has nothing lacking in terms of luxury inside its cabin. This all-new Bentayga is now available from RM743,900, with the Bentayga V8 First Edition available from RM935,000 and please note that both prices are before duty, tax, insurance and registration. Customers deliveries will be commencing in Q4, with showroom units arriving soon and limited cars available for 2020 delivery.
Option Two
Then just yesterday, a day after Bentley’s launch, Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur launched the DBX luxury sports SUV. This 107-year-old car manufacturer has decided that they need a sports SUV in their lineup to bring up their profitability. Yes, Aston Martin might be very late to the premium SUV segment, however they have the advantage of seeing what buyers in their exclusive segment really like and so, provide what buyers really want.
The Aston Martin DBX looks more like a premium sports crossover with its low roofline and curved rear hatch. Under the sexy hood is a 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is also used in the DB11 and Vantage supercars. This sports car engine produces an output of 550bhp and 700Nn of torque which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 291km/h. These performance figures are almost mirrored with the all new Bentayga SUV above. Now here comes the interesting bit. The DBX is priced from RM818,000 before duties, customization options, taxes and insurance. This means the Aston Martin SUV is priced some RM74,000 more than the Bentayga SUV tax free.
Both Options
So, which will you buy? Well, for us, between the two new SUV’s we will be drawn more towards the Aston Martin as its definitely better looking and because it is an all new model, there will be more curbside appeal when driving it around. However, the Bentayga is larger and more commanding in its curbside presence. So, I would probably buy one of each tax free and ‘park’ it in Langkawi and take turns to use them in the city every 90 days until it is time to pay a reduced import tax fee. – The Vibes, October 8, 2020
