IN 2012, the first generation Nissan Almera made its first showing in Malaysia at an asking price from RM66,800 to RM79,800. Powered by a 1.5-litre HR15DE four-cylinder engine featuring Continuously Variable-valve Timing Control (CVTC) and equipped with 2 front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, as well as ISOFIX Child Seat System, it sold very well and gave middle class Malaysians a roomy sedan.
Now, some 8 years later Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has been a little late to introduce this latest version of the very popular Almera in Malaysia. In November 2019 Thailand was the first country in Asia and Oceania to launch the all-new Nissan Almera, with its 1.0-liter turbo engine. Yes, Nissan has decided to downsize the engine of its best selling family sedan in ASEAN and this will be welcomed as its yearly road tax will be low and fuel consumption will be favourable.
Under The Hood
This completely redesigned Nissan Almera is positioned to give Malaysian car buyers new levels of refinement and safety features. The Almera's new, lighter 1.0-liter turbo engine, HRA0, delivers greater power and better fuel efficiency and is paired with a next generation X-TRONIC CVT with D-Step Logic and Sport mode.
Delivering a maximum power output of 100 PS with decent torque figure of 152 Nm at a low 2,400 to 4,000 rpm yet delivering remarkable fuel efficiency of 5.4L/100km. This results in better acceleration and better power output than the previous Nissan Almera. A 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty comes standard on all Nissan Almera Turbo variants, along with free 5 times alternating maintenance service (parts and labour included) within 5 years.
Exterior Design
The new design features lower, wider, and longer exterior dimensions using Nissan's Emotional Geometry design language, while retaining the Almera's roomy interior space. Key elements of the Emotional Geometry design language in the new Almera include the V-motion grille, boomerang-shaped headlamps and tail lamps, kick-up C-pillars, and a floating roof.
Cabin Design
The new Almera incorporates a sleek, comfortable and spacious design that leaves a lasting first impression, along with smart technologies that meet the needs of car buyers in this price segment, especially young families and millennials.
The new Almera's interior has also been totally redesigned to accommodate a new instrument panel, infotainment screen, steering wheel and seats. The stylish passenger cabin features high-quality design and exemplary craftsmanship with head and legroom to spare, retaining its reputation for best-in-class roominess.
Safety
This new Almera comes with Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW) & Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (IFEB). It also comes with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Hill Start Assist and ISOFIX with Top Tether (x2). The base Almera VL variant gets only 2 front SRS airbags. The Almera VLP gets 4 SRS airbags. The top model Almera VLT gets 6 SRS airbags and added safety features like the Intelligent Moving Object Detection (IMOD), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Entertainment
The NissanConnect multi-infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen Color Display Audio (AIVI) also keeps customers ahead of the curve by bringing infotainment, navigation, safety, security and more under a single platform, with seamless connection via smartphone.
Colours
This all-new Nissan Almera comes in six dynamic colours, 3 all-new, which is the Radiant Red, Monarch Orange and Dark Metal Grey and the ever popular Brilliant White, Diamond Black and Tungsten Silver are also available.
Selling Prices
This all new Nissan Almera retails in Thailand from 499,000 to 639,000 Thai Baht which is about RM67,000 to RM89,000. The selling price in Malaysia starts from RM79,906 (which is almost RM12,000 more) for the VL variant, to RM85,715 for the the VLP variant. You will have to pay RM91,310 (which is more than RM12,000 more) for the VLT variant.
