AMONG the seven finalists for the prestigious European "Car of the Year" award, which will be presented on February 28, 2022, are two French models, two South Korean entries, an updated American icon, as well as a sporty Spanish design and a Czech car.

These candidate vehicles are in the running to succeed the latest generation of Toyota Yaris, crowned 'Car of the Year' in 2021.

The seven short-listed candidates up for the title are, in alphabetical order, the Cupra Born, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, the Peugeot 308, the Renault Mégane E-Tech and the Škoda Enyaq iV.

Before the Toyota Yaris won in 2021, the title was snapped up in 2020 by the Peugeot 208.

Every year since 1964, the 'Car of the Year' organising committee awards the best model to go on sale over the last 12 months on the basis of criteria such as value for money, design, comfort, safety, onboard technology and environmental performance.

This year's jury is made up of 61 journalists from 23 European countries.

In the past, the award has coincided with the launch of the Geneva Motor Show, but next year's show has once again been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The winner will be announced online at the 'Car of the Year' website on Monday, February 28, 2022. – The Vibes, November 30, 2021
