NOT many are aware, but among the most valuable parts of a car is the catalytic converter - which apparently is also a hot item on the black market.
A woman recently took to social media to vent her frustration after she found the catalytic converter of her Toyota car was stolen after she parked at the Awan Besar LRT station.
The incident occurred on April 22.
"I pay parking fees every day and this happens to me," she wrote.

She said she returned to her car about 7pm and upon starting it, she heard a loud sound.
Thinking her engine had exploded, she quickly turned off the ignition and tried again, only to face the same problem.
With the help of others, she then realised that the catalytic converter had been stolen and her car could not be used.
She was later informed by her foreman that such parts, especially from original Toyota models were in high demand in the black market.
"A new catalytic converter can cost up to RM4,000 ... now I have to fork out money for this," she said.
For now, she said her only option was a second-hand unit which cost her about RM1,000 or more.
She had since lodged a police report on the incident. - April 28, 2025
