POLICE are looking for a man suspected of stealing a university student's bag while the victim was performing Asar prayers at a mosque in Kampung Jelatang in Alor Gajah, on Saturday.
Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, said the incident occurred at around 4.45 pm in the women's prayer room of the Ar-Rasyidin Mosque.
According to him, the 19-year-old victim was praying alone at the time and placed a bag containing documents and personal belongings in front of the prayer mat.
“Suddenly, the victim saw an unknown man wearing a blue T-shirt and black shorts in front of her before he took her bag.
“The suspect then fled through the back door of the prayer room,” he said in a statement.
He said the police received a report regarding the incident from the victim at 6.24 pm the same day.
“The investigation is being conducted under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
“The suspect has been identified, and the police are currently actively tracking him to assist in the investigation,” he said. – June 8, 2026
