BARISAN Nasional (BN) maintains its decision to allocate the seven seats it is not contesting in the Melaka State Election to Perikatan Nasional (PN), despite efforts to secure additional seats.
BN Chairman and UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that this decision was reached through a mutual agreement, and that BN intends to honour it.
“I am aware of these attempts to seek more seats, but we have a formal agreement that they are to be allowed to contest the seven seats not being vied for by BN; we leave it to them to distribute these among the component parties within PN.
”As of now, that is what has been decided, and we stand by what was mutually agreed upon,” he said.
Yesterday, PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was reported as saying that Perikatan Nasional (PN) hopes to hold further negotiations to secure an additional one or two seats, beyond the seven seats previously announced.
Ahmad Zahid confirmed that political understanding negotiations with PAS had been finalised, with BN set to contest 21 seats, while seven others are allocated to PAS and its political allies.
