A WOMAN lost RM10,000 after a backpack containing cash belonging to her that was kept in her vehicle by a supermarket in Kupang, Baling went missing, yesterday.

Baling District Police Chief, Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe said police received a report regarding the incident from the woman at 11.40am the same day.

He said the complainant claimed to have parked her Toyota Avanza at the location of the incident at 8.30am on the day of the incident, and left the backpack to buy essentials.

"After finishing shopping, the complainant immediately went home and realised that the backpack was missing.

"As a result, the complainant lost RM10,000 in cash," he said in a statement today.

Brandon said, acting on a police report received, an investigation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division, Baling District Police Headquarters (IPD).

He said the investigation found that the distance between the complainant's vehicle and the front door of the supermarket was approximately 15 metres.

"The results of the inspection of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene found that a man believed to be a local aged between 20s and 30s opened the front passenger door of the vehicle and stole the backpack.

"The missing cash was the result of the complainant's business which she wanted to deposit in the bank.

"The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft," he said. – January 31, 2026
