LEGENDARY singer, Bob Tutupoly who entertained fans for many years with his ever-fresh classic song, Widuri, passed away early this morning at about 12.30am (local time) at the age of 82.
The exact cause of death is still uncertain, but his passing is being felt quite strongly among Indonesian musicians and lovers of his strong vocals.
His death was confirmed by his nephew Erick in a statement to CNNIndonesia.com.
Born in Surabaya, Java on November 13, 1939, Bob joined the singing world with Pattie Bersaudara in 1965 and would eventually make a big name for himself in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
In fact, Bob moved to the United States in 1969 and sang in nightclubs in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas before returning to his homeland in 1976.
Upon his return, he recorded the song Widuri, written by Slamet Adriyadi, and had several other hit songs including Lidah Tak Bertulang, Tiada Maaf Bagimu and Tinggi Gunung Seribu Janji.
Throughout his career, Bob has also recorded many studio albums. Among them are the Best of Bob Tutupoli, Album Nostalgia 2, Album Cinta Nostalgia 2 and Tembang Kenangan Pop Indonesia.
For the achievements he made throughout his life, Bob was the recipient of the Anugerah Muzik Indonesia Lagenda in 2015.
