RECENTLY revamped and located in Damansara Jaya, Sudo Brew is an Indonesian café chain that introduces unique coffee and tea based mocktails.
This Muslim-friendly café stages their baristas preparing the beverages through a ‘magic show’ presented before the customers at the mixology bar.
The trick of the magic show is the tea or coffee that has been fermented overnight is infused with nitrogen, and the use of smoke guns with sprigs covered under a glass dome that brings in an element of visual drama.
These mixologies – consisting of five coffee-based flavours and four tea-based flavours – are then topped together with fresh ingredients such as rose buds, lemons, strawberries, cherries, oranges, or star anise.
Apart from that, they also offer the Japanese manual brewing coffee style with four different types of beans.
All the coffee beans come from their very own roastery back in Indonesia.
The Vibes Culture and Lifestyle took a taste at Sudo Brew’s bestsellers, and these are the beverages:
‘Welirang Mystic’ which is a coffee based nitro garnished with fresh rose buds and smoked under a glass dome with sprigs.
Another of their signature coffees is the ‘Smokey Guinevere’ that has a subtle sweetness that leads to a candyish taste lingering in your mouth, followed by a strong sweet breath topped with a fairly sized fresh strawberry.
The third beverage we tried was the 'Zuckerbraunes', a coffee that is manually brewed and infused with thick brown sugary syrup, combined with the spiciness of cinnamon and a froth topping, which leaves a strong dry taste at the back of the throat.
Apart from that, Sudo Brew also offers reasonably priced main dishes and snacks ranging from traditional local cuisine such as pastries, desserts, cakes to European delights in a two-floor, homely setting.
Amongst the many sweets displayed, we tried their daily made bestseller known as ‘Ombak Rindu’ – a tart shell filled with cream cheese and a molten middle that is filled with blueberries which is soft and crumbly, moist but not overly sweet sprinkled with fresh blueberries, cinnamon dust, and a slice of dried caramelised lemon.
We also tried the ‘Pain Nau Chocolate’ as suggested by their staff – a pastry similar to a croissant which is stuffed with squares of dark chocolates.
Although traditional coffees and teas are available for all the caffeine addicts out there, we highly recommend trying out one of these fusion beverages, at least once for the experience.
