IN the giving spirit of Christmas, Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Risyakaran, as part of a first-time initiative, plans to spread joy to children in orphanages and special needs homes in his constituency.
The Christmas Gift Donation Drive calls for the donation of gifts from generous members of the public for 129 children, aged between 1 to 18, in six homes.
Those who wish to contribute may drop off their gifts at his office in Bukit Gasing from now to December 15. All gifts to be donated must be worth between RM20-30 each. The items to be gifted can be new or preloved but must be delivered unwrapped.
Cash donations are also accepted by filling out the Google form provided.
“Prior to this year, we had always hosted a Christmas Open House with over 500 attendees including children from these homes. Even with the pandemic and MCO in place, we didn’t want the children to feel left out and we thought of gifting them presents,” shared Rajiv.
“We’re also making this a community effort because we believe that there are many generous souls out there who would want to help out but may not know where to go or what to do.
“This way, by being the coordinator and drop-off point, we can help ensure that the right gift goes to the right child and no child is left out.
“We have set a price range for the gifts because we want all the children to receive gifts of the same value so that no child feels sad should another child gets a more expensive present.
“All the cash donations received will be used to purchase gifts within the same price range for the children. Our goal is to ensure that every child in Bukit Gasing gets a present for Christmas this year.”
“My office will also be preparing gifts for the kids and we will be delivering all the gifts to the homes on 22 December 2020.
“We prefer to receive the gifts unwrapped because we will be segregating the gifts according to age groups and gender based on the occupants of each home. My office will be wrapping the gifts nicely before delivery.”
“I encourage and welcome those who would like to help spread some joy to these children to donate a gift.
“As a community, we must help each other in good times and bad. And I hope this small gesture of kindness, by my office and the community, goes a long way for the children,” he added.

5. Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home
6. Rumah Pengajian Xavier (RPX)
