LANCE Reddick, a versatile actor known for his roles in The Wire and the John Wick franchise, has passed away at the age of 60. His representative confirmed that he died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles.

Reddick had been busy promoting his role in the upcoming film John Wick: Chapter 4, but chose not to attend the New York premiere earlier this week.

He was best known for his portrayal of Baltimore police lieutenant Cedric Daniels in the critically acclaimed crime drama The Wire. Reddick had originally auditioned for other roles on the show, but ultimately landed the role of Daniels.

In a 2019 interview, Reddick described his time on The Wire as "an iconic piece of history" and expressed how fortunate he felt to have been a part of it.

The show was notable for its predominantly black cast, which was rare at the time given that television was mostly white. Reddick said, "It wasn’t until I got off The Wire that I realised that wasn’t the normal experience. In retrospect, I see that it was really extraordinary."

Reddick's impressive list of TV credits also included Oz, Lost, Bosch, and a lead role in the sci-fi drama Fringe. He had also recently filmed the part of Zeus for the upcoming TV adaptation of Percy Jackson.

On the big screen, Reddick had memorable roles in White House Down, Sylvie’s Love, Brother to Brother, and the John Wick franchise.

He had already filmed his performance for the upcoming John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, as well as the upcoming remake of White Men Can’t Jump.

Reddick's death has led to an outpouring of tributes on social media, with many of his colleagues and fans expressing their sadness at his passing. – The Vibes, March 18, 2023
