THREE siblings have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the murder of a man whose body was later found buried at a bush behind a house in Rawang last night.
The three suspects – two men aged 29 and 33 and a woman aged 32 – were arrested at their residence in the otherwise idyllic village of Kampung Sungai Choh after the police received a report of the grisly incident at about 11.25pm last night.
Acting Gombak police chief Supt Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the alleged killing is believed to have occurred due to a misunderstanding between the victim and his girlfriend who is among the siblings.
"The victim came (to the site of the incident) with four individuals before an argument broke out. It led to the victim to be beaten with sticks, glass bottles and metal barrels until he died.
"Apart from the three arrested suspects, the police are still tracking four other suspects (individuals who brought the victim to the scene of the incident) who are still at large. They are two men and two women," he said in his statement today.
According to earlier preliminary information received by Harian Metro, the incident was sparked by a disagreement between two brothers.
However, the police confirmed that it was caused by a misunderstanding between the lovers that ended in the death of one of them.
The victim's body was buried behind the family's house before a 27-year-old woman, who is the wife of one of the suspects, filed the police report.
Commenting further, Noor Ariffin said that based on the report lodged, the complainant had overheard a conversation between her husband and brother-in-law who asked for help to bury a body at about 5pm.
"Initial police investigations found the body of an unidentified man believed to be buried at a bush," he said.
All the detained suspects were remanded for seven days to assist the investigation which is under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Meanwhile, the New Straits Times (NST) reported a witness who stays in the neighbourhood as saying that he saw one of the suspects dragging the victim behind the house.
Identified only as Ismail, he claimed that he heard sounds of a fight from the suspects' house early in the morning but ignored it, as his neighbours often quarrelled.
"They have been living here for quite a while. The villagers know the suspects' family but don't interfere with their affairs," he was reported as saying.
Ismail said that as the commotion continued, he decided to check on his neighbours and saw the injured victim.
"I saw them beating the victim, and one of the male suspects invited me to join in hitting the victim," the NST quoted Ismail as saying.
