ONE MAN has lost his life while four others are feared to be still buried in a landslide that occurred at Batu 54, Blue Valley, Cameron Highlands early this morning.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani, said they received an emergency call on the incident at 2.51am.
The man was found in lifeless condition at 6.27am. The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the others was still ongoing as at mid-morning today.
It is understood that all of them were residing in a house there when the landslide occurred over the building.
According to the the Cameron Highlands district Disaster Management Committee, the five victims have been confirmed to be Myanmar nationals.
"Based on preliminary information, there are three adult men and one adult woman still in the area of the rubble," Ismail said in a statement today.
According to Ismail, the nine firemen who were dispatched to the scene had to walk about three kilometers to reach the site where the incident took place.
Sinar Harian reported that the deceased has been identified as Haphey, 36.
The four missing individuals have been named by the police as Shing Lan Har, 56, Shing Aung, 39, Om Myue, 38, and Thang Moung, 25.
The rescuers include a team from the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (Storm).
Special teams have also been deployed from Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and the K9 tracking unit.
Incidentally, hours before this incident there was another landslide elsewhere in Cameron Highlands which occured last night.
However, it did not cause any loss of property or life.
Cameron Highlands Bomba received an alert about the earlier landslide that hit a place in Ulu Sungai Palas at 9.33pm.
