A SOCIAL activist in Penang has lodged a police report after allegedly uncovering evidence that a series of lewd shows are being held in the state, promoting the LGBT conduct.

He also claimed that these shows were headed by a Singaporean and involved a group of Thai performers.

After lodging a report at the northeast district police headquarters here, Phan Sow Sun told the media that his social activism group has allegedly gathered evidence to prove such shows were now rampantly being held in Penang.

Last November, police raided an entertainment show at a shopping complex here where they reportedly arrested a group of males and females engaging in lewd acts.

Among those detained was a Singaporean, said Phan, who claimed to have tipped off the police over the matter.

However, Phan said that the Singaporean, who was subsequently deported to his country, managed to evade immigration authorities and instead went on to organise more such shows in neighbouring Johor.

Phan said that such activities are an offence to the conservative outlook of the majority of Malaysians, citing that it is a form of "sexual harassment."

Phan said that he is not totally against LGBT persons but they should not engage in lewd practices in the open, nor promote such acts through social media.

"We must respect our Asian values that we adhere to."

Because it is also done in public areas, such shows should be eradicated because it is highly offensive, said Phan.

He also urged the police to investigate how the Singaporean was able to re-enter the country, as he should be blacklisted for his alleged list of offences here.

A police spokesman confirmed Phan's report and said they will investigate the claims by him. - The Vibes, January 27, 2024.
