A MALAYSIAN parliamentary delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, visited the Rafah border crossing recently.
The visit was to take a closer look at the real situation in the area, which is the only humanitarian access corridor from the international community to Gaza through Egypt.
The Rafah-Gaza border checkpoints are also where emergency and humanitarian relief supplies from Malaysia are channelled to Gaza.
“This visit also aims to monitor the second phase delivery of Malaysia’s humanitarian aid, which is 100,000 basic food packs from the Ops Ihsan warehouse in Cairo,” he said in a statement.
The delegation was accompanied by Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) chairman Tarek Arafat.
Aside from Alamin, other members of the Malaysian parliamentary delegation are Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, who is Ledang MP; Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (Sik MP); Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (Kalabakan MP); and Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli.
The delegation had travelled for almost 13 hours from Cairo by going through 13 security “checkpoints” on the Egyptian side.
“We also witnessed the process of transferring Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt who need medical treatment and access jointly managed between the Egyptian Red Crescent Society and strategic partners such as the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
“More importantly, our presence is proof of our unwavering support in fighting for the Palestinian issue,” said Alamin.
He said, along the way to Rafah, the delegation saw a line of almost 3,000 humanitarian aid trucks waiting for their turn along the edge of the road to Rafah.
“This visit is also in recognition of Egypt’s constructive role in finding a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well as in controlling access to the humanitarian corridor for the Palestinian people in Gaza at this time.
“May this visit encourage Egypt and the international community in general to find a complete solution to the Palestinian issue.”
Earlier, Alamin together with Tarek Arafat, the chairman of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, visited the victims of the Gaza war at the Egyptian Hospital. – The Vibes, February 25, 2024
